Comfort without ductwork
Ductless Mini-Splits in Cambridge
Small, quiet indoor units give each room its own heat and cooling, a great fit for apartments, top floors and additions that radiators and window units never handled well.
Built for Houses Without Ductwork
Many older homes were built with radiators or baseboard and no ductwork at all. Adding ducts means opening ceilings and walls. Mini-splits sidestep the whole mess. A thin bundle of refrigerant tubing passes through a hole about the size of a coffee mug, and every head looks after one room or area, with its own settings.
That flexibility makes them a natural choice for a lot of Cambridge homes: the third floor of a triple-decker, a top-floor bedroom that bakes in summer, a sunroom or an addition that never got proper heat, or a two-family where each apartment wants separate control. In houses without any ducts, they can carry the whole house and let the oil burner retire.
Good results depend on the layout. Too many indoor units cost more than they need to. Too few leave the far rooms chilly. We work out heat loss room by room and place each unit where air can actually reach the space. Wall-mounted units are the usual choice, floor units suit spaces with low windows and ceiling cassettes suit rooms short on wall space. We confirm each pairing appears on the program's qualified roster, which keeps both the rebate and the 0% HEAT Loan available.
